April 25, 2024 The Lagos State Government disclosed that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras captured 850,000 traffic violations over a 15-month period. These cameras, totaling 53 in number, are strategically installed across various locations in the state to conduct routine monitoring checks. During the 2024 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa – Ikeja, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, highlighted the efficiency of the Traffic Management Solution (TMS) device. He noted that in the last three months alone, the TMS successfully recorded 26,816 real-time traffic infringements, significantly enhancing traffic enforcement. President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly suspended Hadiza Bala Usman as the managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority. Hadiza was replaced by Mohammed Koko, the director of finance. Usman Hadiza confirmed that she was aware of her suspension from office, but has yet to receive any formal communication to that effect from the Ministry of Transport. A spokesperson for the ministry did not immediately return a request seeking comments. Ms Usman was appointed as NPA chief in 2016 and has repeatedly propagated her reform policies that sought to redirect the organisation, which is one of the top revenue-generating entities of the Nigerian government. The reason for the replacement was not made known yet but may not be unconnected with poor delivery or expectations as gridlock and many other issues are unabated in NPA.
