The comprehensive Postcode was developed by Nigerian Postal Service for Nigeria.  The NIPOST internal geographers, hitherto depended mainly on maps to arrive at the old Postcode. 

The Postmaster General of the Federation, Dr Ismail Adebayo Adewusi, saw the need to move with technological advancement and collaborated with NASRDA who is the custodian of high-resolution mapping of the country and second to none at analysing the Geographic Information System GIS

What is the difference between postal code and ZIP code? 

A postal code is a helping tool that allows post offices to deal with parcel delivery by the address correctly.
